Record-Breaking Ride Into Spring

Our largest ride yet took place on the first warm spring Friday evening of 2024, March 15th. The fabulous weather undoubtedly had something to do with the great turnout. We took off from the Healdsburg Plaza, cruising through Healdsburg’s eastern neighborhoods towards Recreation Park. Mayor David Hagele and City Councilman Ron Edwards were there to cheer us on. We really appreciate the continued support of the City Council and staff.

By the time the first riders reached the park, our group of almost a hundred riders stretched over several hundred yards. Not only were we joined by a number of families with kids, we also attracted riders from the Latino community and newcomers, including a woman who had just moved to Healdsburg and saw the ride as a chance to meet people. Our friends from the Santa Rosa “Taco Tuesdays” group also joined us with their colorful lowrider bikes and boom boxes, which livened up the ride and helped get the attention of resident spectators. One goal of our group rides (and future walks) is to bring people together and create a renewed sense of community – which seems to be working!

We stopped for a break at the Healdsburg Community Center before heading back to the Plaza via the Foss Creek Pathway. We were extra careful about the dangerous metal bollards, but most of them will be removed in the coming weeks, thanks to resident advocacy and Council backing.

Back at the gazebo, we were welcomed by Anne and Anneke with tacos from Taqueria Guadalajara (yummy!), while DJ Glitterfox entertained us with his awesome sounds. Big thanks to all of the volunteers, including the ride marshalls, photographers and Getaway Adventures, which made bikes available at no cost.
