MLK Day Magnolia Loop Ride

On Monday afternoon, a dozen Move! Healdsburg volunteers used their national “day of service” to bring folks together for another community bike ride.

The weather for the first ride of 2024 was perfect – and all the more appreciated, since the sun only broke through as the ride began at 2 pm, following a gray and cold morning. Thirty riders met at the Old Roma Station, including a dozen riders who joined us for the first time. Mayor David Hagele showed his support by riding his special red, white and blue bike.

The ride meandered through neighborhood streets to the traffic circle and on to Magnolia Drive. For the first time, we offered two distances: A one-loop ride for a total of 5 miles and a two-loop ride, which added on another 3 miles. The vast majority of participants opted to enjoy 8 easy and almost car-free miles. We stopped for refreshments and socializing (thanks to Orsi Winery for letting us use their parking lot, nestled in the vineyards) for about a half hour, before returning to the starting point using the bike path from the roundabout.

We heard from many participants how much they like to explore our town and its surroundings in a group. We also heard that we should organize community walks. Stay tuned for both!
