Community Walk & Saggio Preview

April 7th was a splendid spring day, and 40 people joined us for our inaugural Move! Healdsburg Community Walk. We met at Barbieri Brothers Park, traversed through spring wildflowers adorning our future public park (the official name of the park will be revealed soon) and stopped at the Saggio Hills affordable housing site.

There, we heard from Healdsburg Housing Director Stephen Sotomayor and Robin Zimbler, President of Freebird Development, about the exciting new development. The entire project consists of 118 units for families with income levels between very low to middle income, including 10 deed- restricted duplexes for purchase. Assuming that the necessary funding can be secured, construction of the first phase of the project – consisting of 48 rental units, 12 of which will be reserved for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities – is expected to begin in spring of 2025.

Our walk continued through the Open Space Preserve and gave participants options to walk for 2, 3 or 4 miles. There were spectacular views of the North Village complex, the Russian River and Fitch Mountain. For the last stretch, we were down to a dozen, but whatever the distance, people enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the company of fellow residents, both longtime and new.

We were happy to see not only Mayor David Hagele, City Council members Ariel Kelley and Ron Edwards, but also a big contingent of Enso Village residents. Enso Village will host a Move! Healdsburg Community Bike Ride on July 14th, and the next Community Walk will be held on June 14th, so mark your calendars! To see all upcoming events, visit: https://movehealdsburg.org/events
