SRTS Site Assessments
Please join us… we are excited to share the dates/times (and see attached invites customized per school) for the five (5) SRTS Site Assessments for the City of Healdsburg schools in the week of April 14. We would greatly value your participation in each school’s assessment (1.5 – 2.0 hours) so that, in addition to the school administration and parent/student communities, we may solicit your understanding of, experience with, and insights of the schools’ neighborhood context – with an emphasis on the safety and comfort for students/families who walk, bicycle, scooter, and/or use transit to travel to/from school. For more information about the Countywide/City of Healdsburg SRTS Project and a bilingual SRTS Project Fact Sheet, visit: Safe Routes to School - Sonoma County Transportation Authority. Join Us! School Neighborhood Site Assessment
Safe Routes to School (SRTS), a partnership of the City of Healdsburg Public Works, the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, and the Sonoma County Transportation & Climate Authorities (SCTCA).
WHAT: Site Assessment
The SRTS team, in partnership with your school administration, hosts a walk through the school neighborhood to identify locations and situations that are barriers and challenges for students and families walking and biking to/from the school, and to identify opportunities to enhance the safety and comfort of traveling to/from the school. Following the walk, the SRTS team hosts a mapping workshop to document your concerns which will help inform the types and locations of safety treatment solutions.
WHY: SRTS Plans
Input from the Site Assessment informs the preparation of your school’s SRTS Plan. The Plan will include an Infrastructure Improvements Plan (IIP) - a set of roadway and/or sidewalk improvements to increase pedestrian/bicycle safety and calm driver vehicle speeds and behavior - as well as safety education/active transportation (e.g. walking, cycling) skills training resources. Examples of infrastructure recommendations may include crosswalks, speed humps, traffic circles, among others.
WHO: The School Community
We invite school and district administration and educators, parents, guardians, grandparents, caregivers, school volunteers, crossing guards, neighbors, local businesses, and non-school community members to participate in the Site Assessment.
